The Minister for Sports and the Ministry's role is a facilitative one for all Fijians and the Minister or Ministry does not interfere or dictate to the National Organizations on their operations and rulings.
Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Bala set the record straight on Yeshnil Karan not being selected to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games in Samoa while speaking at Karan's victory celebration at Tavua College today.
Bala says it is very important for all Fijians to realize, that the FijiFirst Government, and its Ministries recognize the reach and the limitations of each of its Ministries and of the Minister.
The Minister added that as he has stated in Parliament, they will take an interest and look forward to see pathways be established so young athletes like Yeshnil are given every opportunity to realize their full potential.
Bala encouraged Karan to remain focused on his athletics career saying Karan will have his chance to represent the country in the future.
The Minister also encouraged all athletes to take part in national meets organised by Athletics Fiji as these events are used to gauge their performances and how they fare against other athletes.
He added that it is also the stepping stone to representing Fiji in international athletics events.
President of Athletics Fiji Joe Roden was also present at the celebration.
Yeshnil Karan had won gold medals in the 1500 and 3000 metres Coca Cola Games finals.
