Minibus operators who are found to be increasing minibus fares without approval will be fined $7,500 through the Traffic Infringement Notices mechanism and risk having their licence revoked or suspended.
The Land Transport Authority has stressed that minibus fares are regulated and as such there is no approach from LTA for any fare increases.
This comes as concerns have been raised that minibus operators are now charging passengers $2.50 from Lautoka to Ba. The fare used to be $2.
LegendFM News has noticed that after 10pm, minibus drivers are charging passengers $2 which is an increase from $1.50 from Suva to Nausori.
LTA is also advising passengers not to pay any increases being demanded and to report any increases to LTA.
