The Methodist Church in Fiji’s Joint Board of Education is working on a feasibility study and a proposal for a Methodist University College.
This has been revealed by the Church Secretary for Communications Reverend James Bhagwan who says that the idea of this establishment is to look into improving the standard of education in their institution.
Reverend Bhagwan says the proposal was first presented to the Methodist Divisional Superintendents and Chief Stewards earlier this year during their Mini-conference and has now been presented to the Annual Conference for endorsement in principle.
He says the committee will report on a regular basis to the Standing Committee of the Church and will be presenting an annual report in the next conference.
Reverend Bhagwan says this will also help in the various values that the church wants to promote and to see how best they can work to take that forward.
He says they are currently looking at the current Methodist tertiary education institutions and the programs that can be provided are holistic and has a Christian foundation.
He says the Methodist University College will take time to establish.
