There will be a recount of the total membership of the largest denomination in Fiji, the Methodist Church this year.
President of the Church Reverend Tevita Nawadra said they want the exact number because there is a difference in the total numbers of members as stated in the last government census compared to the church statistics.
Nawadra said there are 210,000 members according to the church census.
He added that this need to be addressed as this was part of a resolution during the Annual conference last year.
It was highlighted in the Annual Conference last year that the membership has dropped over the past 10 years according to the church’s statistics.
It has been established that some members have joined other denominations and some members are not committed although they were baptized in the Methodist Church.
A proposal has been made during that conference that pastors should visit those who are sitting at home and ensure they have a target to increase the roll.
