Members of Neelgiri Mother’s Club in Sawani Nausori will now be able to save fuel for cooking after they received 22 new FJ Rocket Stoves.
These FJ Rocket Stoves are designed using discarded tins, cans and broken tiles.
Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni who officially launched and presented these stoves said the members of Neelgiri’s Mothers Club went through two weeks training on how to design their own stoves.
Dr Luveni said the rocket stove saves up to $520 on kerosene expenses and $600 on gas expenses per year per household.
She said the rocket stove has the ability of reducing firewood usage of up to 54-percent when compared to open fire cooking.
Dr Luveni said these are small efficient stoves which can produce hot flame with only a few small pieces of wood, or just about any small flammable material.
She also highlighted that this will reduce in risks of cooking accidents and fires and in respiratory diseases as well.
