Specialists from around the world are currently part of the Pacific Partnership mission in the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy that arrived in the country yesterday.
The Pacific Partnership is a joint effort between the United States and the foreign militaries, non-governmental organizations and partner-nation support to conduct civil-military operations including humanitarian and civic assistance, as well as veterinary, medical, dental and civil engineering support.
Emergency Nurse Lieutenant Gary Galicinao says they will work with Fijian Nurses and Doctors to improve the collective ability of responding to natural disasters.
Galicinao adds they will be conducting surgical screenings, dental screenings, health fairs for medical education and conducting basic life support courses.
He says that the ship will be visiting other countries such as Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, Philipines and Vietnam.
The team will also travel to Savusavu on Thursday.
Some of the countries part of the 2015 Pacific Partnership initiative is Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Canada, and France.
