The Mata Hip Hop Crew in Fiji which is made up of twenty dancers will be competing against the Pacific’s best at the Hip Hop International South Pacific Islands Dance competition next month.
The crew’s leader, Tevita Tobeyaweni says the crew was founded late last year and some of its members have worked with the Vou Dance Company, Oceania Dance Theatre and Rue Entertainment Group.
He says one of the dancers comes from Nadi every week.
Tobeyaweni says the Hip Hop International South Pacific Islands Dance competition will see Fiji go up against crews from countries like Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti and New Caledonia.
He says they will be competing for a spot in a World Hip Hop Dance competition that will be held in the US in August.
Tobeyaweni says for the past two months they have been very lucky to have supportive parents who have been helping fundraise for their trip to Auckland.
They will be holding a concert at Kshatriya Hall this Saturday.
The concert titled “ A Journey Through the Animal Kingdom” will start at 6.30pm and tickets are $10.
