Good news for market vendors who pay market stall fees as they will have free access to public toilets from the 23rd of this month.
The decision to eliminate fees for market vendors was made following consultations between the Attorney General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment Parveen Bala.
Sayed-Khaiyum said most people, including those who work in offices, have access to free toilet facilities.
But until now, vendors who spend full working days at the market had no other choice but to pay to use toilets.
Sayed-Khaiyum said municipal markets are at the heart of our towns and cities and market vendors provide a service that all Fijians value and appreciate.
He said a number of vendors approached the Minister for Local Government and himself directly to raise this concern at the Lautoka Market yesterday and they took immediate action to address the issue.
