The essence of the Maritime Careers Expo running with the World Maritime Day celebrations is to showcase the Maritime Industry which plays an integral part in Fiji’s building initiatives.
Assistant Minister for Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Vijay Nath highlighted this while opening the event at the Fiji Maritime Academy earlier today.
Nath says the essence of the World Maritime Day is to involve the public, private and government sectors to discuss issues within the maritime community.
He says maritime transportation is the backbone of trade worldwide as this also opens avenues for markets around the globe.
Nath says that ‘sea freight’ provides an opportunity for competitive costs as sea freight costs are lower than that of ‘air freight’ costs.
He adds that the two day event will include career oriented displays and discussions, insights into respective organisations by various stakeholders that will also be an avenue for students, teachers and stakeholders to mingle and form alliances.
The 2016 World Maritime Day celebrations and Maritime Careers Exposition will end at 4pm today.
