Albinism is beautiful in its uniqueness however many people with albinism have been isolated and discriminated in society.
This was stressed by Human Rights Officer and member of Albinism Fiji Sainimili Tawake while speaking at the launch of the World Cancer Day in Suva today.
Tawake says that they encounter this struggle on a daily basis while a lot of myths surround albinism.
Tawake also highlighted that people with albinism can be susceptible to cancer because they lack pigments.
She says that two people carrying the gene of albinism will result in albinism in their child even if the parents are not albino.
She is pleading with the public to understand the condition.
Tawake also paid tribute to those who have lost their lives to cancer.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Health has revealed that Fiji has less then 700 deaths due to cancer annually.
