A man who raped his sister-in-law in Nadi in March 2016 has been sentenced to 11 years 10 months and 15 days imprisonment.
It was heard in court that the victim was in her home, alone and vulnerable and the man took advantage of this.
It was also heard in court that according to the victim impact statement the victim continues to be emotionally and psychologically affected by the incident.
While sentencing the man, Judge, Justice Sunil Sharma told the man he cannot be forgiven for what he did to the victim.
He says not only he brought shame to himself, but also to the family adding his actions can best be described as selfish and lustful.
The Judge says the court will be failing in its duty if a long term deterrent custodial sentence was not imposed.
A non parole term of 10 years has been set.
