A man who was mugged in an isolated area near a nightclub in Suva on Sunday is calling for increased lighting and surveillance in areas near nightclubs in the capital city.
Lavetanalagi Seruiradu-vatu says this is the third time that he has been mugged along a nightclub area in Suva.
In the latest incident, he was returning from enjoying Suva’s nightlife after 1am Sunday when he was attacked by a group of men.
Seruiraduvatu says they cut through his pants and robbed him.
Seruiraduvatu has filed an official report with Police.
He says our streets should be safe for everyone to be able walk around freely.
Police Chief of Operations ACP Maretino Qiolevu says they continue to patrol nightclub areas around the capital city including Carnarvon Street where this man was allegedly robbed.
When asked about the need to have increased lighting around the Dolphins area, the Suva City Council says it is the Fiji Roads Authority that deals with street lights.
The Suva City Council did not comment on whether they have made a request to the Fiji Roads Authority.
We have asked the Fiji Roads Authority if they have any plans to increase the number of street lights along Carnarvon Street and other isolated areas near nightclubs around Suva.
They are yet to respond.
