A man who hit his defacto partner and dragged her on the floor at his workplace in Nabua last Friday has been given a 18 months suspended sentence by the Suva Magistrates Court.
In her sentence this afternoon, Magistrate Deepika Prakash said that the time the man has spent in remand has been an eye opener for him and she would allow him an opportunity to reform himself.
He was in remand for three days.
It was heard in court that the defacto partner went to see the man at work and he got angry and punched her head, dragged her on the floor and kicked her ribs and legs.
The employer then chased the complainant from the property.
In the sentence, Magistrate Prakash considered that the man had saved the court’s time by pleading guilty and was remorseful.
The man's sentence for one count of assault causing actual bodily harm is 5 months 27 days imprisonment.
If he commits an offence during the term of the suspended sentence he will have to serve his sentence.
A permanent domestic violence restraining order has also been issued by the court.
