Sevanaia Bati has been sentenced to two years and one week by the Savusavu Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to growing and cultivating marijuana.
Bati had cultivated 8 plants of marijuana that weighed 652.7 grams on 24th October last year at Natuva Settlement.
Magistrate Cama Tuberi stated that it is people like Bati that are the cause of the availability of marijuana in Fiji.
He adds that if there is no cultivation of marijuana for sure the crime rate for it will reduce.
A non-parole period of 16 months has been fixed.
