A 49-year-old man convicted of raping a 7-year-old girl has been sentenced to 12 years, 10 months and 2 weeks imprisonment by High Court Judge, Justice Achala Wengapulli.
Justice Wengapulli concurred with the unanimous opinion of the assessors and found the man guilty of the charge.
The offence was committed on 12th December, 2012 at the man’s house.
The court was told that the man was the girl’s mother’s friend’s husband and the victim was playing at his house when the incident happened.
The man has been given a non-parole period of 10 years, 10 months and 2 weeks.
