A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment after he was convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl in 2012.
The victim ran away from home after she had an argument with her mother and settled with her friends in Tavua.
The court heard that one of the victim’s friends introduced her to the accused before the incident happened.
Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge said the mitigating factor is that the accused is married and a father of a three-year-old son.
Aluthge said the man is also a first offender and co-operated during Police investigations.
The accused will be eligible for parole after serving five years of imprisonment.
