A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to three years and eight months imprisonment by the Nausori Magistrates Court after being convicted of robbery.
Mesake Tabaka grabbed a woman's gold necklace in broad daylight while she was going to a restaurant with her husband in Nausori on 12th November last year.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne said that the public in this country should have the freedom to attend to their daily activities without being subject to vicious attacks such as being robbed in broad daylight.
He adds that people who commit these kinds of offence need to be dealt with harsh sentences to denounce their behavior and to deter others from committing similar offences.
A non‑parole of 3 years has been fixed.
