A 33‑year‑old man has been sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment after being convicted of sexual assault of his defacto partner's 4‑year‑old adopted daughter.
The incident occurred in March this year in Navua.
Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza says the man has exposed the innocent mind of a child to sexual activity at such a tender age.
He adds that the victim considered the accused as her own father and he should have protected her and instead he has breached the trust that was expected from him.
Justice Hamza has stated that the man has taken advantage of the victim's vulnerability, helplessness and naivety.
The non‑parole period is two years and four months.
