A 25-year-old man who sexually assaulted his 12-year-old niece has been given a 2 year prison sentence by High Court Judge, Justice Priyantha Fernando.
The incident happened in the early hours of 30th May, 2015 when the girl was asleep on the sitting room floor of the man’s house with her grandmother and sister when she felt that someone was touching her back.
The girl told her mother about the incident who then reported the matter to the police.
The girl’s mother and the man are cousins.
Justice Fernando said that the man breached the trust of the girl as he is her uncle.
The man will be able to apply for parole after serving 1 year.
