A 41-year-old man charged with rape, sexual assault and burglary has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by the Suva High Court just a while ago.
The court heard that Mubarak Hussein wore a mask and broke into a house in Nausori on the 31st of May, 2013.
He used to drink grog at that house.
He raped a 39-year-old woman who was alone at home.
He then escaped however returned later that night and acted like he felt sorry for what had happened and drank grog with her husband until the next morning.
Judge Justice Salesi Temo said Hussein was good friends with the woman's husband and he was treated as a family friend.
While sentencing Hussein, Justice Temo said he breached the trust of the family and is also a con artist.
He is to serve 15 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
