A 50‑year‑old man who pleaded guilty to raping his daughter has been sentenced to 16 years and 9 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of 15 years and 9 months.
While sentencing the man High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe said that the offence that the man has committed is not just very serious but against all social norms.
The man has been convicted of four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count each of attempted rape and indecent assault.
The incidents occurred between January 2005 to December last year.
The court heard that the incidents started when the girl was 12 years old.
The girl is now 24 and she told the court that her father would come to her holding a knife or a hammer telling her to have sex with him or he would hurt her.
