A man has been jailed by the Lautoka High Court for 14 years and 11 months for abducting and raping a girl in 2017.
It was heard in court that Nacanieli Natadra forcefully pulled the girl into his vehicle as she was walking to the shop alone and then tied up her hands and legs.
He then took her to a location where no one was present and raped her.
The court heard that after the incident the man pushed the girl out of the vehicle and fled the scene.
The girl was 17-years-old at the time of the offence while the man was 52-years-old.
In his sentence, Justice Thushara Rajasinghe said the man found an opportunity to commit this crime when the complainant was in a vulnerable position and then committed the crime using substantial amount of physical and emotional violence.
Justice Rajasinghe said according to the victim impact report, the girl has been going through an adverse emotional and psychological trauma due to this incident.
The Judge said the girl’s life style has adversely changed after this incident.
Justice Rajasinghe has set a non-parole period of 12 years 11 months.
