A 29-year-old man convicted of raping his 11‑year‑old step‑daughter has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.
Justice Rajasinghe stated that the duty of the step‑father was to take care of the victim with care and love but instead he breached her trust by raping her.
He adds that the man found an opportunity when the victim was alone at home.
The man was found guilty of a count of rape and the court heard that he had raped his step‑daughter on 6th May last year in Baulevu.
A non‑parole period of 12 years has been set.
