A 48-year-old unemployed man of Sigatoka who raped his seven-year-old niece in March this year has been sentenced to 14 years six months and 20 days imprisonment.
The court heard that the man who was the victim’s step uncle was staying with the family in Sigatoka.
Lautoka High court Judge Justice Sudharshana De Silva said the man had no remorse for his conduct and he took advantage of the victim’s vulnerability.
Justice De Silva also issued a permanent Domestic Violence Restraining order against the man and has ordered him not to have any contact with the victim directly or any other means unless directed by the court.
The man is not eligible for parole until he completes 13 years behind bars.
