A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 13 years behind bars for raping a 10-year-old boy.
The court heard that Maikeli Rasese raped the boy on many occasions between the 1st of July and the 30th of November 2013.
On one occasion, Rasese raped the victim when the child had followed Rasese to the farm to look for yams.
While sentencing Rasese, High Court Judge Salesi Temo says the rape of children is a despicable crime.
Judge Temo says the child was below 13 years old at the time, and in law, he was incapable of giving his consent to Rasese’s action.
Rasese will be eligible for parole after spending 12 years in prison.
