Man involved in alleged stoning incident has been denied bail

24-year-old Demesi Atulaqa who was allegedly involved in the stoning incident at Tamavua–I-Wai

A 24-year-old man who was allegedly involved in the stoning incident at Tamavua–I-Wai has been denied bail by Suva Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa.

A police officer sustained injuries in this incident.

Demesi Atulaqa is charged with two counts of damaging property two counts of serious assault and one count of resisting arrest.

While delivering the bail ruling this morning Magistrate Boseiwaqa said that Atulaqa has a record of absconding bail and works in a Chinese fishing vessel and there is a chance he could run away if he is granted bail.

The case has been adjourned to the 20th of this month to check whether the accused has applied for Legal Aid assistance.

Atulaqa is also charged with a count of aggravated robbery.

This matter has been transferred to the Suva High Court which will be called on the 20th of this month.
