A 34-year-old man who murdered his 53-year-old aunt in Nakavu Nadi earlier this year has been handed a life imprisonment sentence by the Lautoka High court.
Talat Mahamood who pleaded guilty to his charges murdered the 53-year-old woman in her house in January this year following a heated argument.
The court heard that Mahamood later hid her body under a table and placed some tyres on top of her.
The body was discovered by the deceased=s 20-year-old son.
Mahamood fled from the scene and was arrested at Wailoaloa beach two days after the incident.
Judge Justice Sudharshana De Silva said that the aggravating factors in this case were the use of a weapon, the nature of the injuries on the 53-year-old and the age and her vulnerable nature.
A 15 year non-parole period has also been imposed.
