A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering another man in Suva three years ago.
In the early morning of April 8th 2012, Yang Xian Jiong and two others were standing near a vehicle waiting for the owner of the vehicle to arrive at Victoria Parade.
When the man arrived, the three of them jumped on him and repeatedly stabbed him.
He was rushed to hospital but died on arrival.
While sentencing Jiong, Judge Justice Salesi Temo said human life is the most precious of all things on earth and those who plan and bring about people’s death, must expect a severe sentence from the courts.
Justice Temo said the deceased was the sole breadwinner for his family and his death has seriously affected the social and economic wellbeing of his family.
He will have to serve 18 years imprisonment before a pardon may be considered.
