Man gets 9 years for rape

The 38-year‑old Nitendra Prasad Bilash who raped a 16‑year‑old girl at his residence in Nabua on 22nd July, 2013 has been sentenced to 9 years,11 months and 14 days in prison.

Bilash who is now 41-years-old was found guilty by the Suva High Court Judge Justice, Vincent Perera this morning.

The defence filed their mitigation this morning after which the Justice Perera deducted 4 years from 14 years and his sentence was 10 years.

Bilash was remanded for the period of thirteen days and due to this his sentence was further reduced.

Bilash will serve a non-parole period of 7 years, 11 months and 14 days.
