A 42-year-old man who raped an 11-year-old girl on three occasions has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by the Suva High Court.
The court heard that the incident took place between 2012 and 2013 in Levuka when the 11-year-old girl was alone at home with the man.
The court also heard that the man was in a defacto relationship with the girl’s grandmother.
The man pleaded guilty to three counts of rape.
The High Court Judge Justice Paul Madigan said that the differences in age are enormous and the girl was not safe in her own home.
The man has to serve a minimum of 10 years before being eligible for parole.
