A 32-year-old farmer of Nausori has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court after he was convicted of two counts of Robbery with Violence and one count of Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle.
The court was told that on 1st August 2008, Joji Kacivakawalu entered a businessman’s house in Nailaga, Ba, with his accomplice and robbed the family.
In the process, the robbers also pulled the elderly mother of the owner out of her bedroom and she was forced to remove the jewelry she was wearing.
While sentencing him, Justice Paul Madigan highlighted that the robbery was preplanned, there was gratuitous violence to subdue the victim, threats to elderly women made her very scared and lack of remorse was shown by the man.
