A 21-year-old man who pleaded guilty to a count each of possession of ammunition without license and giving false information has been sentenced to 10 months imprisonment by Nausori Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne.

Magistrate Somaratne has partly suspended Tomasi Vula’s sentence and has ordered that he serve five months in prison and the remaining five months has been suspended for three years.

The court heard that Vula had called the police station on the 4th of last month and informed the police that he had found one live round ammunition which was a bullet at Syria Park.

Magistrate Somaratne stated that during the caution interview Vula admitted that he was given the ammunition by a 15-year-old boy and he had it in his possession from the 16th of May till the 4th of June.

Magistrate Somaratne says there is a grave danger of unlicensed ammunition turning up in the wrong hands threatening the national security and public safety.
