Man convicted of rape and sexual assault sentenced to 6 years 7 months and 20 days imprisonment

A 27-year-old man convicted of a count each of rape and sexual assault has been sentenced to six years, seven months and 20 days imprisonment by Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge.

The man raped his ex-wife on 6th May 2015 in Nadi.

Justice Aluthge stated that this heinous crime is prevalent in Fiji and the offenders must be punished to denounce and to send a clear message to the community that no such actions will be tolerated by the courts.

A non-parole period of six years has been set.
