The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has today revealed that a 26-year-old man has been charged with raping a 31-year-old woman during a home invasion in Labasa last month.
In another incident, a 37 year old man has been charged with criminal intimidation and rape after he allegedly raped a 18 year old woman in Cakaudrove.
There were 3 incidents last month where the accused and the victims were related to each other.
In one incident, a 21-year-old man is alleged to have raped his 9‑year old cousin and in another separate incident a 30-year-old man is alleged to have raped and sexually assaulted his 15-year-old niece.
There was one incident where a 45-year-old man allegedly raped his 24-year-old sister‑in‑law.
The DPP’s Office says there were 11 people charged with a total of 24 separate incidents in September.
There were 14 cases of rape, 1 case of assault with intent to rape, 1 case of indecent assault and 8 cases of sexual assault.
There were 11 victims of the 24 separate incidents of whom 5 victims were under the age of 18 years.
Two cases were withdrawn.
Of these two, one was withdrawn due to a false statement from the victim.
