A nightclub employee who allegedly murdered 22-year-old Saula Sucu in Suva in April this year appeared before Magistrate Hettiwattege Somaratne this afternoon.
30-year-old Kelepi Tokalau’s lawyer, Ravi Singh advised the court that his client is ready to take the plea.
Magistrate Somaratne advised Tokalau that he cannot take the plea in the Magistrates Court and transferred the case to the Suva High Court.
Singh then made an oral application for bail however, Police Prosecutor, Joshua Shaw objected saying it’s an indictable offence and it is a case of interest.
Shaw also stressed that they are objecting to bail because of Tokalau’s safety.
He told the court that it has taken the Police four months to investigate the case and the situation is tense amongst the relatives of the deceased.
Magistrate Somaratne then told Tokalau’s lawyer that he can make an application for bail in the High Court and has remanded Tokalau in custody.
The case has been adjourned to the 11th of this month.
Saula Sucu was found dead outside a nightclub.
