A man who is charged for allegedly murdering his partner in 2009 and then absconded overseas, has been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates Court.
Imshad Izraal Ali was charged with the alleged murder of his partner at their Howell Road home in Suva in 2009.
The defence requested the court for bail stating that Ali is suffering from a kidney disease.
The full phase of disclosures are yet to be filed.
Magistrate Makereta Mua told the defence to file a formal bail application with a medical certificate.
The matter will be called next Thursday for the formal bail application and the prosecution to respond.
The 34-year-old kindergarten teacher was allegedly strangled to death inside her home.
The case was dismissed due to the inability to execute a long standing search warrant since Ali had absconded overseas having being given leave to obtain medical treatment.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says through the partnership between the Indian Government and authorities as well as INTERPOL, the accused was arrested and escorted back to Suva by a senior officer of the Fiji Police Force.
