Man appears in court for possession of illicit drugs

Another man appeared in court this morning charged with one count of possession of illicit drugs.

42-year-old Avinash Nambiar appeared in a special court sitting at the Nasinu Magistrates Court after he was found with 3.6 kilograms of marijuana in Nadera over the weekend.

Defence lawyer Jitend Reddy applied for bail today and it was granted by Magistrate Sufia Hamza.

The accused was given a cash bail of $500 and has been ordered not to change his residential address and report to the nearest Police Station.

The case will be called again on 15th February next year.

This latest case comes as police continue to step up their fight against the illegal trade.

The estimated value of the drugs seized last month which includes methamphetamine and marijuana from all four divisions is estimated to be more than $650,000.

A total of 59 people were also arrested and produced in court for their alleged involvement in drug‑related activities during the month of November.
