Man appears in court charged for raping 74yr old woman

A 20-year-old man Meni Raitekiteki, who is charged with raping a 74-year-old woman, appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court.

Raitekiteki is charged with one count of rape, one count of giving false information to a police officer on duty, one count of burglary and one count of theft.

The Police Prosecutor appearing for the State made an application for name suppression for the victim which was granted by the court.

The accused has been remanded in custody as investigations continue into a series of offences alleged to have been committed by the accused.

The matter has been adjourned to the 28th of this month when an application will be made for the matter to be transferred to the High Court and the file to be sent to the DPP for review of charges.
