A 37‑year‑old man of Tacirua accused of brutally assaulting and raping a 57‑year‑old woman last Thursday has been remanded by Nasinu Magistrate Charles Ratakele.
Sevanaia Baleinadi is facing charges of rape, assault and robbery.
It was heard in court today that the man allegedly assaulted the woman and dragged her to the bush where the man again sat on her chest and punched her.
Baleinadi also allegedly bit the woman’s right arm.
He also allegedly threatened to kill the woman and her sons.
It also heard in court that the man allegedly raped the woman more than once after stealing her mobile phone.
Baleinadi has asked for legal aid assistance.
Magistrate Ratakele said the man is charged with an indictable offence and he has transferred the case to the Suva High Court where the matter will be called next Friday.
