“Majority of our graduates from the universities are template driven who think they can do the job as it is being done in the work force.”
Those were the words of Education Minister, Dr. Mahendra Reddy while speaking at the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation Top Executives Conference at the Warwick Fiji today.
Reddy asked the top executives if this is what they all are after.
He says critical thinkers are needed who can question the existing way of doing things, bringing in efficiency and pushing the frontier.
He added that tertiary institutions have failed miserably in getting students to think about being their own masters.
He says another issue that employers need to deal with in this case is employees undertaking part time study.
The Education Minister says over the last three decades there is a marked increase in part time students however employees are undertaking studies at the expense of quality performance at work place.
