While rain is being experienced in some parts of Fiji, some communities are still affected by the prolonged dry situation as their reservoirs have reached critical levels.

National Disaster Management Director Manasa Tagicakibau has confirmed that the main reservoirs across the country which is under the control of the Water Authority are stable but small community reservoirs are at critical levels.

He said the Water Authority of Fiji is working together with the Ministry of Rural & Maritime Development and National Disaster Management to provide assistance to the people and communities affected.

He said they are working with Divisional Commissioners in carting water to affected communities.

Tagicakibau said about 3.1 million litres of water has been delivered to the affected communities including the Maritime islands in the North.

He said they have delivered 97,000 litres of water to the Eastern Division which includes Buliya and Dravuni in Kadavu.

There has been little rain in the Western Division in the last few weeks.

All areas in the Western Division are receiving normal water supply at decreased levels and emergency water supply continues in some areas.

Meanwhile, the Water Authority of Fiji said people in Savusavu continue to receive tap water.

Water carting also continues in the elevated areas in Taveuni as the Authority works to install three desalination plants later this month which should satisfy their water requirements.

In Ovalau, tap water continues to be restricted to lower areas while water carting is provided on upper levels because of low water pressure.

People are urged to use water wisely.
