Suva Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara has asked for an explanation from the Suva Remand Centre regarding the case of Jone Vakarisi Junior and others.
It was heard in court today that some of the remand prisoners in the case of Vakarisi and others charged with going equipped for theft, criminal intimidation, damaging property and resisting arrest have been moved to the Suva Corrections Center.
Defence Lawyer Aman Ravindra Singh said in court that there seems to be a law of its own in the remand center where laws are violated and orders are not followed.
Magistrate Wickramasekara says that he cannot interfere with the operation of the Corrections Service nor can he rely on the Prosecution to give details in court, however he is calling for an explanation from the Suva Remand Center.
It was heard in court that some of the accused were moved to the Suva Corrections Center due to allegations of possession of illicit drugs in the Suva Remand Center.
The Magistrate has also ordered that all the medical reports of the accused be submitted by the prosecution in the next court seating as the matter has dragged a lot.
The court has also ordered for Vakarisi to be escorted to Totogo Police Station as he wants to lodge complaints which include damage to his vehicle.
Vakarisi and seven other accused persons have been further remanded in custody and will reappear in court on the 24th of this month.
They were allegedly involved in the violent attack on police officers in Nabua in August last year.
