The Ministry of Health has re‑deployed stocks of the medicine, Sodium Valproate from within the country to where it is needed and has also secured urgent orders from other sources.
The Ministry says the supply is expected to normalise this week.
The medicine is used for the treatment of epilepsy, panic attacks, anxiety disorder, migraines and bipolar disorder, as well as other psychiatric conditions requiring the administration of a mood stabiliser.
Some people have contacted us saying they are not receiving this medicine at government pharmacies.
Chief Pharmacist, Apolosi Vosanibola says he is aware of the shortages which is due to the manufacturing process.
He says the problem existed with the nominated manufacturer quality assurance issues encountered during the production processes.
He says this is a very important process that exists in all medicinal production to ensure the quality of medicines for human consumption and the Ministry cannot compromise the quality of the medicines.
