The Ministry of Health is now looking at extending the number of temporary doctors under its locum arrangement.
Minister, Rosy Akbar says they will look into extending the locum arrangements, should the General Practitioners express the interest to do so.
Speaking at the Fiji College of General Practitioners Western and Central Faculty mini‑seminar, Akbar says the Ministry has already embarked on locum arrangements with Fiji College of General Practitioners, offering $50 for General Practitioners and $80 to specialists.
Fiji College General Practitioners National President, Dr John Fatiaki says it is encouraging particularly for younger members to avail themselves for the locum opportunity as it is a steady income source that will supplement their practice.
He says the Fiji College of General Practitioners has been in operation for 24 years and of the 600 doctors in this country, 200 are practice members of Fiji College of General Practitioners.
