A man from Matuku in Lau, Luke Cama today reaped the benefit of his hard work and sacrifice after he received a fibreglass boat and materials to build his new home from the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development.
Cama was approved for seasonal work in Australia in 2016 by the Ministry of Employment and saved $26,000.
He deposited $5,328 to the Office of the Commissioner Eastern Division for a fibreglass boat with engine and $3,166 for the completion of his house.
Funding of $16,988 was then provided by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development.
Cama says he left Fiji in 2016 with a plan to build a home and he was able to achieve it through hard work and support from his family.
He says the boat will be used for fishing to support his wife who is a teacher.
The boat was named Far North which is where Cama worked in 2016 through the seasonal worker programme.
Since its inception, about 600 Fijians have been part of the seasonal worker program.
