Local govt roles and functions have been steadily increasing and changing - Bala

Minister for Local Government Parveen Bala says that local government roles and functions have been steadily increasing and changing in response to the new global realities and challenges.

While speaking at the Commonwealth Local Government Regional Network Meeting in Suva, Bala says that we are prone to extreme climatic challenges, and there is a need to act collectively in ensuring that local governments respond effectively to the needs of local communities.

Bala says they need to ensure that councils have the necessary policies, capacity and resources to deliver core services.

The two‑day forum will end at GPH tomorrow.
