Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says this Diwali, we should all look to better ourselves, to better our nation and to renew our commitment towards the bright future we all envision for our country.
In his Diwali message to the people of Fiji, Bainimarama says that he would like to ask that we all take time during our celebrations to reflect on the source of our strength as a people – our unity, our camaraderie and our shared identity as Fijians.
The Prime Minister says it always makes him proud that, year after year, our society has shown that our different faiths are a source of harmony, peace and togetherness.
Bainimarama says as Fijians, we share in the joy of each other’s festivities and we treat our fellow Fijians with the utmost respect.
He says in the spirit of these celebrations, let us all give thanks, as one nation and one people, for the many blessings that have been bestowed upon our great nation.
Bainimarama also says that as one of the most important festivals on the Hindu calendar, Diwali has become a holiday that every Fijian looks forward to each year – a time to light candles, exchange gifts and spend cherished time with our loved ones as we all openly embrace this time‑honoured festival of our Hindu brothers and sisters.
He says the symbolism of Diwali – the triumph of knowledge over ignorance and good over evil – contains meaning that can serve all of us as we strengthen the bonds between our people and move our nation forward.
