Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar today encouraged teachers to learn about technology and become well versed with it to know how to help their students and how to deal with issues their students face with technology.
While speaking at the 85th Fijian Teachers Association Delegates Annual Conference, Akbar stressed that children today are fast with technology and they live in an ICT age and teachers need to be well versed to deal with the influx of information that they get.
She also highlighted that robust debates always helps bring issues to the forefront and solutions that can help address them in schools or in management.
Akbar says that she prefers face to face discussions rather than learning of issues that need to be addressed through the media.
The Education Minister has also urged the association to share with her the outcomes of the Conference so to be able to better address issues or implement solutions that have come out from their deliberations over the week.
Akbar has stressed to teachers present that they are not allowed to touch any of their students and once the Ministry receives a complaint of corporal punishment they have to investigate and in many cases, this ends with a termination of the teacher’s contract.
