The defense lawyer of a woman who is charged with the alleged murder of her 4‑year‑old daughter wants a reassessment of the woman’s psychiatric report.
Rozleen Razia Khan allegedly tied herself up with her 4 year old daughter and drove their car off the road into the Rewa River on the 6th of May this year.
Khan’s husband had alleged that she had called him while driving with their daughter saying that she will take both their lives.
She had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge and High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar asked her lawyer if Khan had offered to plead guilty for the lesser charge of manslaughter.
The defence lawyer requested that she be given time to explain the lesser charge and also get a reassessment of her psychiatric report.
Justice Goundar noted that her existing report stated that Khan does not have a mental illness and is fit to take her plea.
Khan’s lawyer said she would like a reassessment as Khan has had a history of high depression and it does not tally with the report by St. Giles Hospital.
She also asked for time to discuss the matter of the lesser charge with DPP and get all other necessary information.
The case will next be called before High Court Judge Justice Vincent Perera on 1st October at 9.30am for mention.
