The Lautoka Sugar Mill is currently undergoing major renovation works to its diffuser plant.
The diffuser that extracts sugar from the sugarcane was installed in 1996.
Fiji Sugar Corporation Chief Executive Officer Graham Clarke says a new chain was last fitted to the diffuser in 2009.
He says since the diffuser installation was done over twenty years ago, the diffusor had some very worn out structural parts both inside and outside which required replacement.
Clarke adds after this renovation process, the diffuser is expected to extract sugar more reliably.
The CEO says currently there are around fifty workers involved on the diffuser project, who are all working towards getting it operational by mid‑next month and ready for the new crushing season.
